Is this you?

When someone asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, are you in the answer?

  • 01

Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini "who should I use for [what you do] in [where you are]" and read the names. Yours is not there.

  • 02

Your business is described differently on your site, LinkedIn, your Google profile and three directories, and none of them match.

  • 03

Your pricing, timelines and process live in a PDF you send after a call, so the engines have nothing to quote.

  • 04

Your reviews say "great service" and never say what the service was.

  • 05

You have never been mentioned anywhere except your own website.

Generative engines recommend businesses they can verify. Most of GEO is making your business easy to verify: consistent facts, plain claims, real mentions. It is unglamorous, and it works.

How I do this differently

Become easy to verify, then measure it by asking the engines yourself.

You are hiring a generative engine optimization expert, not a tool subscription. There is no ranking factor to game here, so I do not pretend there is. The engines retrieve, cross-check and write. What gets you named is agreement between sources: your site says X, your profiles say X, two third parties say X, your reviews describe X. I make that true.

A GEO specialist earns mentions; original beats optimised. A benchmark from your own work, a clear opinion, a real example with numbers: these get cited because the model cannot generate them. I help you find and publish the things only you know.

The scoreboard is the prompt log. Twenty buyer questions, four engines, once a month, screenshots kept. You see the month you first appear and whether it holds. No proprietary "AI visibility score".

What I will not do
  • Sell you a tool subscription as a strategy.
  • Create fake mentions, fake reviews or fake "expert" profiles.
  • Promise you will be recommended. Nobody can.
  • Spam Reddit and forums with your name. It gets noticed and it backfires.
  • Separate this from your SEO. It is the same site and the same facts.
What you actually get

What generative engine optimization includes, by month.

Month 1

  • Baseline prompt audit: 20 buyer questions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode, logged with who is named and which pages are cited.
  • Entity audit: every place your business is described, with the differences listed and fixed.
  • One canonical description of the business, agreed with you, published everywhere.
  • Crawler access confirmed for the AI engines.

Months 2 to 3

  • Service and About pages rewritten as verifiable statements: who, what, for whom, where, from what price.
  • Listings completed on the platforms the models read in your industry (review sites, directories, associations, G2 or Capterra for software).
  • Review requests reworded so reviews describe the work and the place.
  • Organisation, Person, Service and FAQ structured data in place.

Month 4 onward

  • Two to three genuine third-party mentions a quarter: partners, trade press, podcasts, communities, guest pieces with your name on them.
  • One original piece a quarter the engines can only get from you: data, benchmark, opinion.
  • Monthly prompt audit against the baseline, with AI referral traffic and enquiries alongside.
  • Adjustments as the engines change, which they do often.
What it costs

Fixed monthly scope after a free prompt audit that shows you exactly who the engines name today. GEO is usually combined with SEO or AEO rather than sold alone; the pricing article has the retainer ranges by country and provider. You get my number in writing, with the hours, before you commit.

How long it takes

Entity fixes and page rewrites can be reflected in Perplexity and ChatGPT within four to ten weeks. Consistent recommendation across engines for a competitive category takes three to six months of mention-building.

How we start

A free look at your site first. Then a fixed monthly scope in writing, with the hours behind it, and you talk to me every time. What this costs in the market, by country and provider, if you want the numbers first.

One real example

Canary Mail: recommended by ChatGPT, Google AI and Gemini for its category, by name.

The recipe was consistency and proof: one description of the product everywhere, comparison pages with plain claims, real reviews that mention specific features, and 17.5K editorial links from sites the models already trust. When generative engines started answering "what is the best AI email client", Canary Mail was already the easiest answer to verify. 2,200+ mentions and counting.

Before you hire anyone for this

Questions to ask, including me.

The answers you should hear are in brackets. If you get something else, keep looking.

  1. Which engines name my competitors today, and for which questions?Any GEO consultant should run a logged prompt audit, with screenshots, before any proposal. If they have not run it, they are guessing.
  2. What will you change on my site, and what off it?Two lists. GEO that is only on-site work is half a plan.
  3. How will you earn mentions?Named targets and a method. If it involves "our network of sites", walk away.
  4. What is your AI visibility score based on?If they cannot explain the number in one sentence, it is a sales tool. Ask for the prompt log instead.
  5. How does this fit with the SEO I already pay for?It should be the same work, held to a higher standard of facts. The 12-point GEO checklist is what to expect.
FAQ

GEO questions you might have.

What exactly is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization, building the topical authority, entity clarity and multi-source presence that influences how generative AI models synthesize their answers, rather than optimizing for a single extractable citation.

How is GEO different from AEO?

AEO targets a single question with a single, extractable answer, think featured snippets. GEO is broader: it's about shaping how models blend multiple sources into an original response about your brand or category, winning across many related prompts rather than one query at a time. See the full AEO service →

Can you control what AI models say about my brand?

Not directly control, no one can. What GEO does is stack the odds: consistent, accurate, authoritative information across the sources models draw from tends to get reflected in what they generate. It's influence through authority, not a lever you can pull.

How do you measure GEO success?

By tracking how often and how accurately your brand gets mentioned across models and markets, the same method behind the Canary Mail numbers above, broken out by country and by model.

Is GEO relevant for local businesses?

Less so. GEO matters most for brands competing on broad category authority (SaaS, B2B, national or global brands). Local businesses usually get more value from Local SEO and AEO first. See the full Local SEO service →
